A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Ava City Council in Illinois on October 15, 2024. The request, issued by us at Carbondale Reporter, seeks detailed information about the city council members.
We are specifically asking for a list of all council members with their names, titles, years of appointment, term lengths (2 or 4 years), and term expiration dates. This information is being sought under the provisions of the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, 5 ILCS 140.
As a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we believe that access to public records is essential for fulfilling our professional responsibilities. These include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public.
In light of our role in disseminating information to the public, we have requested a fee waiver as a media professional. We await a response from the Ava City Council and will continue our efforts to bring transparency and accountability to local government affairs.
