Southern Illinois University women’s soccer to face Illinois State in conference opener

The Southern Illinois University women's soccer team is set to begin Missouri Valley Conference play against Illinois State on Thursday night in Carbondale, Ill.

The Salukis come into the match with a 4-2-2 record, following a 2-1 victory over SIUE on September 12. In that game, Hannah Elkebir scored her first career goal for the Salukis, while McKensey Bunch netted her third goal of the season. Goalkeeper Fabiana Solano has started and played in all eight games this season, recording 23 saves. Both Lucy Horn and Solano have played the full 720 minutes so far this season. Sophia Schlicklin leads the team with four goals.

Illinois State enters Thursday's match with a 2-5-1 record. Chloe Gine leads the Redbirds with two goals this season. The team has scored three goals in total.

This will be the fifth meeting between Southern Illinois University and Illinois State, with Illinois State leading the series 3-1. The last matchup ended in a 1-0 loss for SIU.
