The Southern Illinois University women's soccer team secured its second home win of the season on Thursday night, defeating SIUE with a final score of 2-1.
In the first half, neither side managed to score. The Salukis had two shots in the initial 45 minutes of play.
McKensey Bunch gave the Salukis an early lead in the second half, netting her third goal of the season in the 47th minute. Shortly after, Hannah Elkebir scored her first goal as a Saluki in the 54th minute.
The Cougars avoided a shutout with a goal in the 73rd minute off a free kick.
Goalkeeper Fabiana Solano recorded two saves and started in her eighth consecutive game.
"Now it's important to take some time and we're ready for the start of conference play next Thursday," head coach Graeme Orr said.
The Salukis will open Missouri Valley Conference play next week against Illinois State on Thursday, Sept. 19 at 6 p.m.
