Southern Illinois men's golf starts fall season at SIUE Derek Dolenc Invitational

The Southern Illinois Men's Golf team is set to begin its fall season by participating in the SIUE Derek Dolenc Invitational in Madison, Ill. Hosted by Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville, the tournament will feature 18 teams and take place over two days. The competition begins on Monday with each team playing 36 holes, followed by an additional 18 holes on Tuesday.

The Salukis will field a five-man team and one individual golfer. Representing the team are Carsen Silliman, Leon Heitz, Oliver Ulrich, Anthony De Schutter, and Frank Bellino. Jan Wdowka will compete as an individual golfer.

The event will be held at Gateway National Golf Links, which spans 6,972 yards and is a par-71 course.

Coming off a successful 2023-2024 season as defending MVC champions, the Salukis' lineup includes four returning players from last season along with two newcomers. The new additions are transfer junior Jan Wdowka from Webster University and transfer senior Anthony De Schutter from Arkansas State University. Wdowka hails from the Czech Republic and ranks 887th in the World Amateur Golf Rankings with an average of 72.3 strokes in his first two seasons at Webster. De Schutter comes from Belgium and ranks 1,777th in the World Amateur Golf Rankings.
