City of Carbondale Local Liquor Control Commission met April 23.

Here are the minutes provided by the commission:

Commissioners present

Commissioner Clare Killman, Commissioner Nancy Maxwell (attended remotely), Commissioner Ginger Rye Sanders, Commissioner Jeff Doherty, Commissioner LaCaje Hill, and Chairperson Carolin Harvey

Members absent

Commissioner Adam Loos

Meeting called to order at 7:00 PM

1. Preliminaries to the Local Liquor Control Commission Meeting

Procedural: 1.1 Roll Call

Following Roll Call, action to permit the attendance of Commissioner Maxwell to attend remotely, in accordance with the Open Meetings Act.

MOTION: Allow Councilmember Maxwell to attend remotely.

Motion by Clare Killman, second by LaCaje Hill

Final Resolution: Motion Carries

Yea: Clare Killman, Ginger Rye Sanders, Jeff Doherty, LaCaje Hill, Carolin Harvey

Action: 3.1 Local Liquor Control Commission Meeting Minutes from March 26, 2024

MOTION: Approve the minutes from the Local Liquor Control Commission meeting of March 26, 2024

Motion by Clare Killman, second by Ginger Rye Sanders.

Final Resolution: Motion Carries

Yea: Clare Killman, Nancy Maxwell, Ginger Rye Sanders, Jeff Doherty, LaCaje Hill, Carolin Harvey

Action, Reports: 3.2 Hearing Officer's Report and Recommendation No: 2024-33

Assistant City Attorney Joseph De Mond was present on behalf of the City of Carbondale; he noted that the owner was not able to attend due to a prior scheduled commitment.

There were concerns raised regarding the City Code that allows underage individuals into bars and that this policy is a disservice to liquor establishments.

Jacob Minkus concurred with the comments regarding underage persons in bars.

MOTION: Accept the report and recommendation from the Liquor Hearing Officer

Motion by Jeff Doherty, second by LaCaje Hill.

Final Resolution: Motion Carries

Yea: Clare Killman, Jeff Doherty, LaCaje Hill, Carolin Harvey

Nay: Ginger Rye Sanders

Abstain: Nancy Maxwell

There being no further business to come before the Local Liquor Control Commission, the meeting was declared adjourned at 6:11 p.m.
