In recognition of Red Ribbon Week, Rep. Severin is calling on everyone to take a stand against drug abuse and commit to a drug-free lifestyle. Red Ribbon Week, which takes place from October 23 to October 31, is an annual campaign that aims to raise awareness about the harmful effects of drug abuse and promote prevention efforts.

During Red Ribbon Week, individuals of all ages are encouraged to increase their understanding of the dangers of drug abuse, including the misuse of prescription drugs. It serves as a reminder to stay informed about the negative consequences that drugs can have on our lives and the lives of those around us.

Rep. Severin emphasizes the importance of educating ourselves and our communities about the risks associated with drug abuse. In a statement, he says, "Red Ribbon Week is an opportunity for us to come together and say no to drugs. It is a time to renew our commitment to living a healthy, drug-free lifestyle and to provide support to those struggling with substance abuse."

The campaign also aims to empower individuals to make positive choices and resist peer pressure. By promoting drug-free activities and events, Red Ribbon Week encourages young people to engage in healthy and productive endeavors instead of turning to drugs.

As part of the initiative, schools, businesses, and community organizations across the nation will be hosting various events and activities to promote drug-free living. These may include educational workshops, drug prevention rallies, and awareness campaigns.

Red Ribbon Week has been observed since 1985 and has become the largest drug prevention campaign in the United States. It was established in honor of DEA Special Agent Enrique "Kiki" Camarena, who was kidnapped, tortured, and killed by drug traffickers in 1985.

Rep. Severin urges everyone to participate in Red Ribbon Week and make a personal commitment to a drug-free life. He states, "Let us use this week as an opportunity to educate ourselves and others about the dangers of drug abuse. Together, we can make a difference and create a healthier and safer future for our communities."

By coming together during Red Ribbon Week, individuals can take a stand against drug abuse and help build a society that is free from the devastating effects of drugs. Let us join Rep. Severin in saying no to drugs and promoting a healthy, drug-free lifestyle for ourselves and future generations.
