Farmers’ markets are a great way to connect with the people who put so much time and effort into growing the foods that we eat. In an Aug. 7 Facebook post, Rep. Paul Jacobs highlighted Farmers’ Market.
"August 6 through August 12 marks "Farmers Market Week". I love shopping at local farmers markets for the freshest produce money can buy! Thank you to all who help bring food from farms to tables across the state of Illinois!"

Paul Jacobs was first elected to the Illinois House in 2020. A Republican, their legislative experience includes serving on the Tourism Committee and Higher Education. Jacobs is a state representative who resides in Pomona, according to the Illinois House.
The Illinois Extension Office kicked off the celebration of Farmer’s Market Week on Aug. 5, with a visit to QC Farmers’ Market in Rock Island County. They offered pressure canner gauge testing, shared information on food preservation and storage, and even offered recipe samples.
In Carbondale, there’s a winter season farmer’s market in the east wing of the University Mall. The indoor market is open December through March, and includes a producer only farmers’ market with local farmers and producers, as well as local artisans. The winter market is part of Food Works, a nonprofit organization.
The Illinois Farmers’ Market Association offers farmers’ market organizations the marketing tools, and a webinar to help them officially celebrate National Farmers Market Week.
In an Aug. 1 Facebook post, the Buy Fresh Buy Local organization highlighted the Carbondale Community Farmers Market. The post said: “Buy Fresh Buy Local Farmers Market Spotlight: Carbondale Community Farmers Market The Community Farmers Market is a winter season market and will return Saturday, Dec. 2nd 2023 INSIDE University Mall in Carbondale. The Carbondale Community Farmers Market is a program of Food Works. hey believe that a truly enduring approach emphasizes access to good food for everyone, keeps food dollars circulating in local communities, and balances human needs with the health of the air, water and land resources on which all life depends.”
Food Works is a nonprofit organization that sponsors a variety of programs, including the Carbondale Community Farmers Market, Mobile Farmers Markets, Farming Alliance, Farm Beginnings, and Farmers Markets & Link Match Support. Food Works is based in Carbondale and serves the 23 southernmost counties in Illinois.
