Recognition of Guests and Visitors/Public Comment
The Board of Education welcomes the audience to make public or employee comments. The Board has set aside time in the agenda specifically for this purpose. Pursuant to Board Policy 2.230, each speaker shall be limited to a 5-minute presentation. Please be aware that, while this is the time for the public to express its opinions and/or concerns, the Board may or may not comment regarding public presentations. If a matter of public comment warrants discussion or action of the Board of Education, such discussion or action will be added to the agenda for a future meeting.
UPEA Remarks
Solar Presentation—GRP
*Laura Weber, Business Development Manager with GRP|WEGMAN Company will provide a presentation on the benefits of Unity Point utilizing solar energy, including lower costs and the use of sustainable energy sources. Once the information is provided, the Board will need to determine how to proceed.
IASB 2023 Resolutions Process
*The IASB Delegate Assembly will be held in conjunction with the Triple I Conference on November 17-19, 2023, to conduct the annual business of the Association. One of the most important components of that meeting is the consideration of Resolutions submitted by member boards. The decisions of the Delegate Assembly regarding proposed resolutions determine the direction of IASB. The deadline to submit resolutions is June 22, 2023. Board member, Elizabeth Mackenbach is proposing a resolution that would consider using the IL-DCFS (Illinois Department of Child and Family Services) CANTS (Child Abuse and Neglect Tracking System) as a means to fulfill the Employment History Review (105 ILCS 5/22-94) of Faith’s Law. Please see attached resolution.
Award Bid for Diesel Fuel
*Hines Oil Company was the only bid received for fuel. The fuel bid does contain an escalator feature, as we would expect. The price quoted for diesel fuel is $3.4830, which is an overall decrease of $1.5520 from last year’s cost of $5.0350. The administration recommends approval of the fuel bid as presented.
Award Bid for Electric Supply
*Michelle Brown, Business Manager is recommending a 1-year contract with Constellation to provide our electrical needs. The summary of bids is provided for your review. The Superintendent recommends board approval of the recommendation as presented.
Approve Combi Oven Purchase for ISBE Kitchen Equipment Grant
*Ulli Tragoudas, Food Service Director and Michelle Brown, Business Manager are recommending the purchase of a gas, Combi Oven/Steamer per the quote provided by Stafford-Smith, Inc. The Superintendent recommends board approval of the recommendation as presented.
Presentation of the First Reading of PRESS Policies Update—Issue 112
*IASB PRESS Plus Policy Services has provided the June 2023, Issue 112 of PRESS Plus with the most recent policy updates for Board consideration. The policy updates will be on review until the time of the second reading and approval at the July 20, 2023 board meeting.
Superintendent Committee Update
*During the May 25, 2023 board meeting, the Superintendent was directed to form a committee to review the staff recruitment and retention practices of the District and subsequently report to the board as a whole any potential recommendations for improvement. The initial committee meeting was held on Thursday, June 8, 2023. Please see attached committee report.
Establishment of Committees
*The Board will consider the establishment of committees to assist with the Board's governance function and, in some situations, to comply with State law requirements. Attached for review is the list of standing committees that the Unity Point Board of Education utilized in 2008. Per IASB, these committees remain the most utilized committees by Illinois school districts.

*Continuous School Improvement Report
*Approval of 2023-2024 Athletic, GLOBAL and Kidz Klub Handbook Revisions
-Handbook revisions have been on review since the May board meeting. The administration has not received any inquiries, comments, or questions relating to the updates; therefore, it is the recommendation of the administration to approve the revisions as presented for the 2023-2024 school year.
*2023-2024 Proposed Student/Parent Handbook Revisions
-Enclosed are additional proposed changes for the Student/Parent Handbook for the 2023-2024 school year. The administration will present any final changes during the July board meeting with the expectation for final approval.
