Sen. Terri Bryant introduced her weekly update in a Facebook post on Apr. 4 which is referred to as "Latest from the 58th".
Bryant has been focused on relieving high inflation and increased cost of living. She attended the Capitol press conference to advocate for solutions to the economic issues that impact Illinois residents.
In the June 28, 2022, election, Bryant ran unopposed in her efforts to serve the residents of District 58.
Bryant's Bulletin highlighted a package of bills that are meant to bring Illinois residents some financial relief. The Call for action on Bryant's bulletin includes Senate Bills 1150, 1151, 168, 2200, 1152 and 330.
"These solutions present an opportunity to provide much-needed, permanent relief to Illinoisans who often have to choose between buying groceries or paying their utility bills," Bryant said.
These bills are Senate Bill 168/Senate Bill 1151. Each bill aims to give parents a tax credit equal to 25% of the federal tax credit for each of their qualifying children, or up to $500 per child on state income taxes.
Sen. Jil Tracy filed both of the bills, and Senate Bill 168 will go into effect immediately. Since its introduction on Jan. 21, 2013, it has been re-referred to the assignments committee and a variety of co-sponsors have been added.
Senate Bill 330 would change the Property Tax Code and allow a reduction in assessed value for affordable rental housing construction or rehab. It would go into effect immediately upon passage. In addition, it increases senior citizen tax exemptions.
Bryant believes that these bills will give the opportunity for Illinois residents to afford basic necessities.
"These solutions present an opportunity to provide much-needed, permanent relief to Illinoisans who often have to choose between buying groceries or paying their utility bills," Bryant said.
