The Apprenticeship Office for Local 150 Operating Engineers is looking for apprentices to operate heavy machinery.

“A statement from a licensed physician stating physical ability to perform the work of the trades will be required 30 days after being accepted into the program,” Republican Sen. Terri Bryant wrote on Facebook. “Must be able to read, write, and speak the English language.”

Local 150’s Newsroom noted there’s a $25 application fee for its 11 programs.

ASIP Local 150 says that during an apprenticeship, “apprentices are taught the proper use, care, and safe handling of the equipment used in connection with their work and, of course, the important skills necessary to become a successful Operator. While working on-the-job and acquiring skills, apprentices are a regular part of the workforce on whom contractors and co-workers rely. Apprentices are also required to attend classes and complete the prescribed courses related to the trade to complement their on-the-job training. If the on-the-job or school work is not satisfactory, they may be dropped from the program or sent back to repeat that segment of training.”

Local 150’s Newsroom noted applications will also be available at its various buildings in Illinois.

The William E. DuganTraining Center is located in Wilmington, Ill. The center boasts 342,000 square feet of space housing an indoor training area, over 200 pieces of heavy equipment, 30 classrooms, a construction material testing lab, a state-of-the-art welding facility, an equipment simulator lab, a 200-seat auditorium, and much more. Instructors are available to members six days a week, Monday through Saturday, except on holidays.

In the June 28, 2022 election, Bryant ran unopposed in her efforts to serve the residents of District 58. Her party’s candidate for the Illinois gubernatorial race, Darren Bailey, made headlines for controversial comments ranging from his Facebook Livestream speech amidst the Fourth of July Parkland mass shooting investigation and comparing abortions to the Holocaust in a leaked 2017 video.
