Rep. Patrick Windhorst (R-Harrisburg) recently reached out to his constituents at three different events.
"We had a great Saturday at the Old King Coal Parade in West Frankfort and the Meet the Candidate event in Carmi!" Windhorst posted on Facebook on May 16. "We also had a wonderful Meet and Greet at Shotgun Eddy’s between those two events! Thank you for all your support!
In October, Windhorst announced he'd be seeking re-election to represent the newly-created 117th District.
“After dethroning a political dynasty in 2018, I went to work in Springfield to fight corruption, enact pro-growth policies, and push back against the Democrats' never-ending attack on our Southern Illinois values," Windhorst said, according to the Marion Republican. "I have amassed a rock-solid conservative voting record of opposing every single tax increase that came through the House, opposing any and all infringements on our Second Amendment rights, and defending the lives of the unborn. I look forward to providing Southern Illinois a conservative voice once again.”
Windhorst recently released a statement on the leaked draft opinion from the U.S. Supreme Court that would overturn Roe vs. Wade.
“If the Supreme Court indeed goes through with reversing Roe and Casey, the light of life can shine more brightly throughout our country,” Windhorst posted on his website. “Let’s be clear about what the decision would mean. This decision itself would not outlaw abortion, but would rather allow each state to make its own laws in regard to abortion. It would, as Justice Alito reportedly wrote, ‘heed the Constitution and return the issue of abortion to the people’s elected representatives.’”
Rep. Dave Severin (R-Marion) was also at the Old King Coal Parade in West Frankfort.
In his own Facebook post on May 15, he said: “I will be losing West Frankfort in the newly drawn legislative maps, but I know the people there will be in good hands when my friend, fellow Representative and ultra-talented and brilliant Windhorst is re-elected as a new 117th district State Representative. I was honored to join Senator Bryant and friends to show our support for Patrick at the West Frankfort Old King Coal parade on Saturday!”
The primary election will be held June 28.
Windhorst served as the State’s Attorney for Massac County from 2004 to 2018. He was elected to the Illinois General Assembly in 2018 and sworn in on Jan. 9, 2019.
