Republican state Rep. Dave Severin has added recruiter to his job description.

“Illinois State Police (ISP) is taking applications for the next two cadet classes,” Severin recently posted on Facebook. “Please see the information below if you are interested in joining.”

Applications are now being taken for classes scheduled to commence in June and October. The deadline to apply is Jan. 21 and April 1, respectively, and interested parties can go to illinoistrooper.com.

Last August, the ISP announced three other cadet classes, including one starting in March 2022 and wrapping in September 2022.

Applicants “from all of Illinois’ diverse communities“ are encouraged to apply, with two of the new classes being traditional courses and the other a fast class, paving the way for already certified officers to become Illinois State Troopers through accelerated training.

ISP Firearms Services Bureau (FSB) also recently announced plans for customers to be able to receive correspondence regarding their FOID cards and CCLs from the ISP by email and/or text message, Wane.com reported.

“The Illinois State Police Firearms Services Bureau is working diligently to ensure the statutory changes to the FOID Act will benefit the people of Illinois,” ISP Director Brendan F. Kelly told the station. “This opt-out option will make it easier and quicker for the public to receive notifications regarding their FOID card and/or CCL.”
