City of Herrin City Council Met June 28.
Here is the minutes provided by the council:
Mayor Steve Frattini called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m., led us in prayer and recited the Pledge of Allegiance. Shelly Huggins, City Clerk called the roll.
PUBLIC SAFETY
Bill Simmons asked for a Public Safety Committee Meeting to discuss Fire Department staffing.
Stephanie Allen, President HJBL wanted to thank the Police Department for getting to the ball fields during the recent shooting event. Ryan Hudson got to Diamond 6 first to help with the kids in the dugout. Chief and Deputy Chief have been being present as well. The police have been keeping a presence out there for the last two weeks. If in the future years, they could make rounds through the park and fields it would be great.
MINUTES OF JUNE 14, 2021
Motion made by Alderman Shoemake, seconded by Alderman York to approve the minutes of June 14, 2021 Council Meeting. Alderman Ahlgren, York, Crompton, Kinley, Miller, Ruppel, Sizemore, and Shoemake voted "Yea". None voted "Nay".
TREASURER'S REPORT
Treasurer Carl Goodwin was absent from the meeting.
BUDGET OFFICE REPORT
Carrie Cravens, Budget Director had nothing to report.
Codes Administrator Robert Craig was absent from the meeting.

PUBLIC WORKS
Bill Sizemore, Chairman of the Public Works Committee stated that street projects will begin soon and use caution.
Tom Somers, Public Works Director stated Monday, July 5 trash service will run. City Hall is closed.
PUBLIC IMPROVEMENT
Marilyn Ruppel, Chairman of the Public Improvement Committee had nothing to report.
PUBLIC SAFETY
David Dorris, Police Chief stated we had other entities helping us at the park incident.
Shawn Priddy, Fire Chief was absent from the meeting.

Motion was made by Alderman York, seconded by Alderman Shoemake to authorize bills to be paid before the Council. Alderman York, Crompton, Kinley, Miller, Sizemore, Ruppel, Shoemake and Ahlgren voted “Yea”. None voted “Nay".
INSURANCE
Sheila Ahlgren, Chairman of the Insurance Committee has nothing to report.
HERRIN LIBRARY LIAISON
Marilyn Ruppel, Liaison for the Herrin City Library stated the library is open. They will still let you use curbside service, Non-resident card available for $55. Most other communities around us charge more. Eagle Scout project improving section of shelves in the children's section. Summer reading program in June was successful. 7/1 Drive-in Movie at the library - Charlotte's Web, 7/8 they will supply art supplies that children can create, 7/16 outdoor movie at Marion Pavilion along with Marion & Carterville, 7/22 70s night with prizes.
HERRIN CIVIC CENTER LIAISON
Scott Kinley, Liaison for the Herrin Civic Center stated there are private events going on. Christmas in July trivia night with proceeds going to the Herrin Hometown Christmas and Civic Center, Only a few tables remaining.

COUNCIL
Alderman Ahlgren wanted to echo about the police rapid response during the episode at the park and she Had the weapons retrieved from her yard. If you see something you feel is not right, do not hesitate to call The police.
Alderman Miller stated that across the street from OLMC there is abandoned house with overgrowth. He or Mayor will get with Robert to address. He thanked PD as well over the park situation. He stated many have spoken that the police have been stopping and talking with the children and they thank them for that.
Alderman Crompton stated that the PD personnel have been walking around along with other officers from Surrounding entities and everyone appreciates them.
