Sen. Terri Bryant (R-Murphysboro) called attention to what she sees as a disturbing pattern coming from Gov. J.B. Pritzker when it comes to his handling of the COVID-19 crisis.

“Our government was not intended to give this much power to one person,” Bryant said in a March 12 Facebook post, where she counted 76 executive orders Pritzker issued over the first year of the pandemic compared with the zero times the Legislature was allowed to be involved in the state’s decisions.

“We have branches of government that are designed to balance the power and provide for multiple perspectives in order to best protect and serve the people of Illinois,” Bryant said. “Our requests to be included in the process have gone unanswered for the entire year.”

Bryant and GOP lawmakers have filed a Senate that requires Pritzker to return to Springfield for an extension of an emergency proclamation.
