Carbondale Non-Bargaining Unit Employees Personnel Board recently issued the following announcement.
On 09-17-2020 at approximately 2:25 a.m., City of Carbondale Police Department officers responded to the area of the 300 block of South Emerald Street in reference to a report of a vehicle theft. During the course of the investigation, an officer located the vehicle, a Ford F-250 Truck, and attempted to stop it. The driver of the truck as well as the driver of an Oldsmobile Aurora both fled from the officer. Both vehicles then went different directions in the area of West Main Street and North Almond Street.
The Ford truck crashed into a utility pole in the 300 block of West Pecan. The driver, described as a black male wearing a gray long sleeved shirt and black shorts, fled from the area northbound on foot. Officers later located the Oldsmobile unoccupied in the intersection of West Chestnut and North Michaels Streets.
The Oldsmobile was later discovered to have been stolen from the 300 block of South Plover. The investigation revealed that both vehicles were unlocked with the keys available.
