The Southern Illinois University System has announced that it intends to resume in-person classes for the fall, starting in August.
An email was sent out on May 14 by SIU System President Dan Mahony to the faculty confirming the plans that he has made to start back up.
“While our campuses are different and maybe addressing issues in a different way, we share the same goal of maximum preparedness to provide peace of mind for everyone who will be studying, living, and working on our campuses this fall," Mahony told WPSD Local.
The idea is to announce the plans specific to reopening in June to the staff and students.
Both of the campuses will follow the orders of the state to reopen Illinois put in place by Gov. J.B. Pritzker. The system-wide task force is working hard to restore the classes and there are several different issues that they are working on to make the reopening of the campus successful. This will include plans for COVID-19 testing, large group events and dining halls.
