City of Murphysboro City Council met April 30.

Murphysboro Special City Council Meeting

The Murphysboro, Illinois, City Council met in special session, pursuant to its ordinances. Mayor Stephens called the meeting to order at 6:03 p.m. and led the council in prayer.  Following the invocation, Mayor Stephens led the council in the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag. Mayor Stephens then directed City Clerk Hunziker to call the roll.  The roll was called with the following members:

Present:        Barb Hughes, Jance Curry-Witzman, Russell Brown, William Pierson, Gary McComb, John Erbes, Mike Bastien

Absent:          Dan Bratton, Gloria Campos, WJ Pittman

Consideration of Resolution of Support for the Application to Community Development Block Grant Program: Alderman Erbes stated the Public Hearing has been held, have three applicants, this is to forward those applications to the State. Attorney Blake stated the Resolution is provided by DCEO, the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity.

Motion:  To approve the Resolution of Support for the Application to Community Development Block Grant Program for Whimsey Photography, The Corner Tavern and Medwedeff Forge & Design.  

Motion by Alderman McComb

Second by Alderman Hughes

Mayor Stephens called for a roll call vote.

Yeas: Alderman Hughes, Alderman Curry-Witzman, Alderman Brown, Alderman Pierson, Alderman McComb, Alderman Erbes, Alderman Bastien

Nays: None

Absent: Alderman Bratton, Alderman Campos, Alderman Pittman

Motion Carried 

Consideration of Ordinance Amending the Fair Housing Code: Alderman Erbes asked this is required? Attorney Blake stated the city’s was last updated in 1997. We are updating the Fair Housing code to what is required by Federal and State and is a requirement of the Resolution.

Motion:  To approve the Ordinance Amending the Fair Housing Code.

Second by Alderman Hughes

Mayor Stephens called for a roll call vote.

Yeas: Alderman Hughes, Alderman Curry-Witzman, Alderman Brown, Alderman Pierson, Alderman McComb, Alderman Erbes, Alderman Bastien.

Nays: None

Absent: Alderman Bratton, Alderman Campos, Alderman Pittman

Motion Carried 

No public comment.

Mayor called for a voice vote.  All were in favor.
