Carbondale Community High School District 165 Board of Education met Jan. 16.

The regular meeting of the Board of Education of School District 165 was held in the Cafeteria of Carbondale Community High School, 1301 East Walnut Street, Carbondale, Illinois, on Thursday, January 16, 2020, at 6:00 p.m.
Upon roll call, the following members were present:

President Woodard declared a quorum present and the regular meeting of January 16, 2020, was called to order.
Approval of Minutes: Motion by Swims, seconded by Galan, to approve the minutes of the regular scheduled meeting of December 19, 2019. Roll call: Galan, Hudgins, Swims, VanWinkle and Woodard voted yes. Nay, none. Motion carried.

FOIA Requests: The Board received a listing of the 2019-20 FOIA Requests received to date.
Fine Arts Department Presentation: Fine Arts Department Chair, Erik Berrey, did a presentation for the Board regarding the activities of the Fine Arts Department.
Payment of Bills: Motion by Swims, seconded by Galan, to pay the remaining bills for the month of December 2019; and, those available for payment for the month of January 2020. Roll call: Hudgins, Swims, VanWinkle, Woodard and Galan voted yes. Nay, none. Motion carried.
Principal’s Report: Mr. Thomas reported on the following:
●National Honor Society is January 27, 2020, at 7:00 p.m.
●SAT Prep—Math, English, Best the SAT
●Educators Rising – Club to Dual Credit
●Multicultural Festival is February 5, 2020, at 6:00 p.m.
Superintendent’s Report: Mr. Murphy advised the Board the Memorandum of Understanding to participate in the Construction Craft Program developed by the Williamson County Laborers had been approved by the Laborer’s Board. He said this will allow current CCHS sophomores to apply for the program in the Spring.
Facility Improvements Committee Update: Mr. Murphy advised the Board the Illinois School Construction Task Force should release its report by March 1, 2020; and, the grant application would be released in April or May. He said this did not change the bid recommendation that was being proposed that evening. He said that he and Dr. Woodard had discussed presenting the Board with different borrowing options in the Spring—the maximum amount, versus a smaller amount for specific projects.
Approval of 2020 "Love Your Heart” Free Personal Leave Day Drawing: Motion by Swims, seconded by VanWinkle, to approve a free personal leave day (as a drawing) in the annual promotion of faculty and staff participation in good heart practices by getting a blood pressure check (to qualify for the drawing) during "Love Your Heart Week" in February. Roll call: Swims, VanWinkle, Woodard, Galan and Hudgins voted yes. Nay, none. Motion carried.
Member Briefly Leaves Meeting: Member Swims left the meeting at 7:51 p.m. and returned at 7:53 p.m.
Permission to Bid Science Lab Renovations, Shop Renovations, and Security Entrance: Motion by Galan, seconded by VanWinkle, to authorize District Architect Paul Lundsford to solicit bids for Science Lab Renovations, Shop Renovations, and a Security Entrance on Walnut Street as presented. Roll call: VanWinkle, Woodard, Galan, Hudgins and Swims voted yes. Nay, none. Motion carried.
IASB PRESS Issue 102 Board Policy Manual Updates-Second Reading/Adoption: Motion by Swims, seconded by Galan, to approve the IASB PRESS Issue 102 Board Policy Manual updates as presented. Roll call: Woodard, Galan, Hudgins, Swims and VanWinkle voted yes. Nay, none. Motion carried. First reading of the updates occurred at the December 19, 2019 Board meeting.

Resignations/Retirements: Motion by Hudgins, seconded by Swims, to approve the following resignations/ retirements as presented:
a. Resignation of John Gund (English Teacher) effective at the end of the 2019-20 school year.
