ILLINOIS STATE HOUSE DISTRICT 117: Severin Says – Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Illinois State House District 117 issued the following announcement on Dec. 23

Dear Friend,

As you gather together with friends, family, and loved ones this holiday season, my wife Penny and I want to wish you a VERY Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

It is my honor to serve you as 117th district State Representative. I strive every day to carry the values we share with me to Springfield and beyond. As we sign off “Severin Says” for the 2019 calendar year, I want to thank you for your continued readership and for reaching out to my office in Marion to express your concerns and seek help with issues.

I look forward to 2020, but there are a few items of note I want to share with you first!

Backpacks for Buddies Drive Ends First Year on High Note

Thank you to everyone that has donated back packs and supplies for the 2019 Backpacks for Buddies Drive. Just a reminder…I am collecting NEW backpacks and overnight/toiletry care items to give to DCFS. The backpacks will go to children that are faced with being placed in temporary foster care. The back pack provides the child and the foster family with something the child can call their own…I wanted to start this program to tell kids in need that Southern Illinois literally has your back.

This week, Hope Church in Carbondale and the Marion Jr. High Student council both made very generous donations. THANK YOU!

We have collected more than 100 bags since October 1st. The spirit of generosity and kindness is alive and well in Southern Illinois and I thank you from the bottom of my heart!

Don and Beverly Basso Celebrate 70 Years of Marriage!

I was honored to present Mr. Don and Beverly Basso with a certificate congratulating them on 70 Years of Wedded Bliss! God has blessed their union and I wish them many, many more happy years together!

I was honored to help serve lunch and speak at the annual Christmas meal for the families participating in the Centerstone Early Head start program. The amazing food was prepared by the HERRIN House of Hope and Mrs. Cooper’s homemade dressing was just like grandmas.

Thank you to the staff of the Early Head Start program for another wonderful Holiday gathering!

Mary Ellen Aiken Named Franklin Hospital Ladies Auxiliary Volunteer of the Year!

Congratulations to the 2019 Franklin Hospital Ladies Auxiliary Volunteer of the year – Mary Ellen Aiken – for a job well done, helping make the organization a great success promoting and supporting Franklin Hospital.

Merry Christmas from your Southern Illinois State Reps!

Rep. Severin Named to Lyme Disease Task Force

December 20, 2019

Marion….State Representative Dave Severin announced this week that he has been appointed to the Lyme Disease Task Force by House Republican Leader Jim Durkin. Rep. Severin co sponsored HB 889, now Public Act 101-0371 that requires an individual or group policy of accident and health insurance or managed care plan to provide coverage for long-term antibiotic therapy for a person with a tick-borne disease.

“Lyme disease is difficult to test for and diagnose and sometimes leads to complicated plans for treatment,” Severin said. “I am looking forward to studying this issue more closely and working to achieve positive results for individuals that contract lyme disease.”

Publc Act 101-606 charges the task force to study the use of prescription drugs and innovative therapies for children and adults with rare diseases, and make recommendations on legislation that could improve the care and treatment of adults or children with rare diseases.

The Task Force is supposed to submit a report of its findings and recommendations to the General Assembly and the Governor by March 1, 2020.
