CARBONDALE CHAMBER OF COMMERCE: Boys & Girls Clubs of Sothern IL: Call for Nominations: John Cherry Heart & Soul Award

Carbondale Chamber of Commerce recently issued the following announcement.

John Cherry led a group of concerned citizens and the community to make the Boys & Girls Club of Carbondale a reality for the youth more than 15 years ago. He is known affectionately as the “Godfather” of the Boys & Girls Club. His dedication to the organization goes on today. The BGCSI, in celebrating the 15thAnniversary, will honor a community member who exemplifies John Cherry’s values.

The inaugural John Cherry Heart & Soul Award will be presented at the 15th Anniversary “Crystal Gala” to be held September 20th. The mission of the Club is “to inspire and enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to realize their full potential as caring, productive, and responsible citizens.”

The person nominated for this award, has demonstrated throughout the years a passion for their community in a manner consistent with the mission of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Southern Illinois. More importantly this person should exemplify those values that endear John Cherry to us, his family, friends and many others. The nominee shows consistent heart and soul by their passion, integrity, spirituality, determination, love, initiative and humility. The nominee demonstrates a commitment to volunteerism to make their community better, through advocacy, support and nurturing those who need us most.

Nominations must consist of:

1-page, single spaced (12 pt. font) description of the values and qualities and a description of the community activities of the nominee.

Three letters of support from members of the community for the nominee.

Nominations are due no later than August 30th by close of business. They can be submitted by mail, email (tcarpenter@bgcsi.org) or can be dropped of at the BGCSI at 250 N. Springer Street in Carbondale.
