City of Herrin Public Improvement Committee met July 8.
Here is the minutes provided by the committee:
Meeting called to order at 5:45 p.m. Those in attendance on behalf of the City were Mayor Steve Frattini, Alderman Paul York, Alderman David Shoemake, Alderman Sheila Ahlgren, Alderman Bill Sizemore, Alderman Scott Kinley, Alderman Randy Crompton, Alderman Steve Miler, Alderman Marilyn Ruppel, Codes Administrator Robert Craig, Treasurer Carl Goodwin, Police Chief Quinn Laird, Public Works Director Tom Somers, Attorney John Brewster and City Clerk Shelly Huggins.
Recycling - Marilyn called Progress Port they are the ones that do the recycling for no charge. They have 2 of their workers that come and clean them out. Part of the problem is that other people are dumping other trash in the bins. The only items accepted are tin cans, cardboard and plastic. Must be in plastic bag and can be mixed of those things and they will sort it there. There are people dumping tree debris as well. Maybe someone on light duty or a volunteer could man the recycling part making sure the people are from Herrin and things are bagged up. We have no one on light duty and we have other jobs they can do that are more pressing. We will put some signs up and clean everything up and start clean as a first defense.
Meeting adjourned 5:55 p.m.
