Carbondale coc color w1484

Carbondale Chamber of Commerce recently issued the following announcement.

Businesses looking to hire top talent, and Southern Illinois University Carbondale students and alumni are welcome at two job fairs this fall.

The university’s Career Development Center is hosting the fairs, with dozens of employers participating. However, there’s still plenty of time for additional companies and students to get involved.

STEM careers focus of September event

The STEM Job Fair, set for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sept. 25 at the Student Center Ballrooms, is open to all majors but the focus is on careers where skills in science, technology, engineering and/or math are utilized. This event is free and open to all students and SIU alumni.

October brings a second job fair

The center is also hosting a Job and Internship Fair on Oct. 10 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Student Center Ballrooms. Students from all academic programs are invited as are alumni.

Free admission for students and alumni

Admission for both job fairs is free for current students and graduates of the university. All who attend should dress professionally and bring multiple copies of their resumes.

Participants can also explore internship opportunities at both fairs and free professional headshots will be available.

Get help polishing your resume

In addition, the center will offer free walk-up resume critiques prior to the first job fair. Stop by the tables at the north end of the Student Center’s first floor 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Sept. 18-20 and the center’s staff will give on-the-spot feedback to help students update and refine their resumes.

More businesses welcome

Already more than 40 companies looking to hire Salukis have registered for the STEM Job Fair and more than 50 have signed up for the Job and Internship Fair. Additional business participants are still welcome up until the day of each event.

Register online at https://careerdevelopment.siu.edu/employwers/jobfairs.php. Additional information and costs for businesses are on the website as well. All businesses registering at least a week in advance of the event will be featured in the handout students receive.

For additional information, contact the Career Development Center at 618/453-2391 or careerdevelopment@siu.edu.
