CARBONDALE CHAMBER OF COMMERCE: SIU to hold Guitar Fest

Carbondale Chamber of Commerce recently issued the following announcement

From September 28th to the 29thh Southern Illinois University is hosting the 5th edition of the SIU Guitar Festival. Dr. Isaac Lausell, the artistic director of the festival and SIU guitar professor is presenting a 2-day event full of concerts, lectures and master classes.

The opening gala on 9/28/18, 7:30 OBF will feature Tim Steis This promising classical guitarist is the protégé of the world renowned classical guitarist/professor Bruce Holzman.

This year’s festival will be headlined by Aldemar Valentín performing with a jazz quartet on 9/29/18 7:30 in Altgeld Hall 112. A bass guitarist, composer and recording artist. Aldemar has worked with jazz giants such as Miguel Zenón and Danilo Pérez. This beloved Puerto Rican musician is coming to us by way of Xalapa, México where he teaches at the Centro de Estudios de Jazz at the Universidad Veracruzana in the state of Veracruz.

The day sessions will feature workshops and master classes including a very special lecture/recital on the Persian Setar by SIU engineering student Arash Asadollahi.

The SIU Guitar Festival is sponsored in part by the SIU Fine Arts Activity Fund, and Centro de Estudios de Jazz – Universidad Veracruzana.
