Carbondale Elementary School District 95 students suspended 205 times in a single school year

Carbondale Elementary School District 95 reported 205 suspensions for 2016-17, according to the latest student discipline report by the Illinois State Board of Education.

According to the report, the district expelled or suspended 205 students during the year. That equates to 13.6 percent of the 1,508 students enrolled.

Of the 101 in-school suspensions, 78 were given to boys and 23 were given to girls, all of whom were elementary or middle schoolers.

The district reported that most in-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 99 incidents. There were two incidents of violence that caused physical injury. For 80 incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.

Of the 104 out-of-school suspensions, 77 were given to boys and 27 were given to girls, all of whom were elementary or middle schoolers.

The district reported that most out-of-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 101 incidents. There were two incidents of violence that caused physical injury. For 52 incidents, students were suspended for 3-5 days.
