Williamson County Board of Commissioners met June 12.

Here is the minutes provided by the Commission:

The following members present:

The following departments were present and presented their monthly status report:

Greg Smothers - Highway Department

Discussion had with Greg Smothers, Highway Department, on a quote from NOVACOM concerning the need for an electronic sliding fence at the Highway Department. No action taken.

Motion made by Brent Gentry and seconded by Ron Ellis, approving Ordinance No. 18-06-12-02 Ordinance For The Establishment Of Altered SpeedZones. Roll call vote was taken as follows: Jim Marlo, Yea; Brent Gentry, Yea; Ron Ellis, Yea. All members present voting Yea; motion carried.

Motion made by Jim Marlo and seconded by Ron Ellis, approving Ordinance No. 18-06-12-04 Gravel Tax Ordinance. Roll call vote was taken as follows: Jim Marlo, Yea; Brent Gentry, Yea; Ron Ellis, Yea. All members present voting Yea; motion carried.

Greg Smothers, Highway Department, also discussed with Commissioners an upcoming project of putting in a roundabout that will take place on Herrin and Cambria Road for 2021. There will not be a cost to the County, but the roads could possibly shut down for 30-60 days. Also, discussed were the roads in the Corinth area. Semi trucks are taking this route to haul things to a landfill in Saline County. Using this route every day is tearing up these roads. Mr. Smothers brought up the idea of possibly changing the tons allowed and do a load limit to preserve the roads. He also stated that the project on Limb Branch Road is still on track. No action taken.

Motion made by Brent Gentry and seconded by Ron Ellis, approving Raffle and Poker Run License for Carterville Chamber of Commerce. Roll call vote was taken as follows:

Emily Burke, Walkers Bluff, was present to discuss a letter of support for The Resort at Walkers Bluff. Commissioners agreed to sign letter.

Garry Johnson and Steve Blye, from LEAPO, were present to speak with Commissioners regarding signs that they would like put up around the Lake of Egypt area. There are eight signs total. Five to be put in Williamson County and three in Johnson County for residents to be able to find their way around the Lake of Egypt. They will be working with Greg Smothers, Highway Department, on location and signage.
