Carbondale Chamber of Commercerecently issued the following announcement.

Carbondale Community Arts (CCA) is accepting nominations for the fourth annual Southern Illinois Arts Legacy Award. The Award is being presented by CCA to recognize individuals whose character and achievements exemplify a dedication to the arts and community in southern Illinois. Its goal is to recognize patrons, advocates, teachers, community development activists, and art practitioners of every kind. All current or past residents of the southern Illinois’ 26 southernmost counties, with the exception of current CCA board members and staff, are eligible. Posthumous nominees will also be considered.

“Celebrating and encouraging leadership in the field helps to foster awareness of the important role the arts play in the well-being of our communities,” said Carolyn Snyder, a past CCA board member who initiated the award. “In many ways the arts are the legacy of our communities, so we encourage you to take a moment to nominate someone who has advanced access to, support for, excellence in, and/or innovation of arts and culture in southern Illinois.”
