Carbondale Chamber of Commerce recently issued the following announcement.
It’s the Buck Full Moon on July 27 and to celebrate The Varsity will show the romantic classic “Moonstruck.”
In her Oscar-winning role, Cher plays Loretta Castorini, an Italian-American widow and bookkeeper whose timid fiancé can’t decide between her and his mother. Against her better judgement, Loretta falls in love with her fiancé's estranged brother (Nicolas Cage), a bakery worker with a love of opera and life. Supporting actress Olympia Dukakis and screenwriter John Patrick Shanley also won Oscars in this comedy classic.
“Moonstruck” was ranked as the No. 8 Best Romantic Comedy by the American Film Institute.
The Full Moon in July is the Buck Moon, named after the new antlers that emerge from a buck's forehead.
The Varsity will show “Moonstruck” at 7 p.m. Friday, July 27. Tickets are $5 and are available in advance at www.thevarsitycenter.org. Tickets also will be available at the venue on the night of the show when doors and the bar open at 6:30 p.m. The Varsity Bar features beer, wine, select cocktails, non-alcoholic beverages, snacks and popcorn.
