Newspaper

Touch of Nature Environmental Center recently issued the following announcement.

Summer internships are often a key way for young people to launch into specific careers after graduation. And for the students in Southern Illinois University Carbondale’s College of Agricultural Sciences, these opportunities just keep coming.

For its 59th year of internship programs, GROWMARK selected four SIU students to join FS companies for a summer of opportunity and experience.

In total, 41 college students from across the nation were accepted into the internship program. These students will be working with companies in Illinois, Iowa, Wisconsin, Missouri, Ohio and Ontario, Canada.

Students receive a variety of experiences

GROWMARK is an agricultural cooperative that provides agronomy, energy, facility planning and logistics products and services to a variety of companies across the United States and Canada. Interns participating in the summer program will have the opportunity to work in accounting, marketing, communications and product and service-related activities.

“This internship program continues to be a key component in identifying and retaining top talent for the GROWMARK system,” said Kayla Portwood, GROWMARK university relations manager. “Students engage with industry professionals on important projects and have the opportunity to clarify career goals, while we get exposed to some of the most talented university students.”

SIU students focus on Illinois

All four of the students from SIU Carbondale will be working in companies located in Illinois.

  • Alex Smith, a junior in Illinois, Crop, Soil and Environmental Management from Rochelle, will be interning at Carroll Service Company.
