City of Carbondale Human Relations Commission met Feb. 5.

Here is the minutes provided by the Commission:

Call To Order

The meeting was called to order at 5:05p.m. by Chair Hennrich.

Minutes

There Was No Minutes For The Meeting Held On January 8, 2018. Due To A Lack Of A Quorum.

Announcement

Elius Reed announced the SIU Board of Trustee meeting which is scheduled for February 8, 2018 at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville.

Commissioner Joseph Brown announced the screening of Glory on February 6, 2018 at the University Museum in Carbondale, Illinois beginning at 6:30p.m.

Elius Reed addressed the 2018 spring enrollment retention rate of SIU students.

Sarah Heyer announced that Women for Change will be having a rally on February 8, 2018 beginning at 6p.m. located at the Eurma Hayes Center.

February 7, 2018 Invisible Carbondale will be meeting at Italian Village beginning at 7p.m.

February 9, 2018 Reggie Brown will be presenting in Morris Library at SIUC beginning at 6p.m.

March 3, 2018 the Varsity Center are presenting “An evening of Neo-African Soul with musical group Total Eclipse” beginning at 7:30p.m.

Elius Reed announced the job vacancy for Carbondale Community High School principal position.

February 15, 2018 is Darwin Day which is located at SIU Law School beginning at 7p.m. with guest speaker Dr. Jonathan Losos from Washington University in St. Louis.

Carbondale Color Fun Run is scheduled for April 21, 2018 located at Lew Hartzog Track and Field Complex in Carbondale, Illinois beginning at 11a.m.

The State of the Union Student Address is scheduled for February 15, 2018 which is located at SIU Student Services Center beginning at 5:30p.m.

Jackson County Southern Illinois Girl Scout Thinking Day is scheduled for February 25, 2018 which is located at SIUC Student Center beginning at 1p.m.

Elius Reed addressed the February 3, 2018 newspaper article about Chancellor Carlo Montemagno hiring package from SIUC.

Commission Comments

Chair Hennrich requested Commissioners to review their biography for the Human Relations

Commission website.

Sparrow Coalition Report

Commissioner Shariati mentioned that the Sparrow Coalition meetings are scheduled during the Human Relations Commission meetings.

Women For Change

Neighborhood Action Group Report

Sarah Heyer announced that the Neighborhood Action Group will be meeting on February 7, 2018.

Non-Violent Carbondale Project Report

Sarah Heyer announced the 11 days of Peace which is planned for September 2018.

Racial Justice Coalition Sarah Heyer mentioned that The Racial Justice Coalition and Race Unity Group are planning an event to support the SIU cheerleaders.

Sarah Heyer announced that The General John A. Logan Museum are planning a presentation about the Bostick Settlement in Murphysboro, Illinois.

Law Enforcement

Chief Jeff Grubbs announced the Police Department Safety and Satisfaction Survey.

Discussions with the Commissioners regarding student gatherings during the 2018 Polar Bear weekend.

The Carbondale Police Department are currently accepting applications for the Citizen Police Academy.

Next meeting – March 5, 2018. There being no further business, Chair Jerrold Hennrich closed the meeting to adjourn. All voted AYE. Motion carried.
