City of Carbondale Human Relations Commission met April 2.

Call To Order

The meeting was called to order at 5:00p.m. by Chair Hennrich.

Minutes

Motion was made by Chair Hennrich and seconded by Commissioner Stephanie Brown to approve the minutes from the March 5, 2018 meeting. Motion carried. All Voted Aye. Corrections:

Announcement

Commissioner Stephanie Brown mentioned that April 2, 2018 is World Autism Awareness Day.

April 21, 2018 is the 2018 Color Fun Run which will begin at 11a.m. located at the Lew Harzog Track and Field Complex.

Commissioner Stephanie Brown announced on April 18, 2018 there will be free training classes for First Responders located at the Carbondale Fire Station #2 beginning at 10a.m.-12p.m.

Scott Martin announced that Dr. David Cochran will be presenting at the Carbondale Newman Center on April 17, 2018 beginning at 7p.m.

Commissioner Weaver announced that the Catholic Campaign for Human Development will meet on April 13, 2018 beginning at 9a.m. located at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Carbondale, Illinois.

Elius Reed announced the open house of the Carbondale Streetscape Phase 2 project on April 4, 2018 beginning at 4p.m.

SIUC Board of Trustees meeting is scheduled for April 12, 2018 located at the SIUC Student Center.

Chair Hennrich announced the Carbondale Curb Appeal Assistance Program in which applications are available on the City of Carbondale website.

Elius Reed mentioned the City of Carbondale Firefighter exam.

Scott Martin announced the 50th Anniversary of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr on April 4, 2018 beginning at 1p.m. located at SIUC Student Center Auditorium.

Commission Comments

Chair Hennrich addressed the community concerns regarding the closure of a local Carbondale bar to the Human Relations Commissioners.

Sarah Heyer announced that the Neighborhood Action Group will resume their meetings in November 2018.

Racial Justice Coalition

Sarah Heyer announced that the Racial Justice Coalition will meet on April 5, 2018 beginning at 7p.m.

Law Enforcement

Safety Assessment for places of worship and other business institutions.

Further details for the Citizen Police Academy applications will be announced next month.

Coffee With a Cop will be announced next month.
