Carbondale Chamber of Commerce recently issued the following announcement.
The cities of Carbondale and Murphysboro, Carbondale Tourism, the Jackson County Board and the General John A. Logan Museum are proud to present "The First Memorial Day."
The play, written and directed by Carbondale resident Betsy Brown, celebrates the rich history of Memorial Day in Carbondale. Throughout the show, you will meet real people, played by Carbondale youth, who brought the idea of a Memorial Day celebration to life, including General John A. Logan and Carbondale's founder, Daniel Brush.
The production will be held at Carbondale Community High School on Saturday, May 5 at 2 p.m. Admission is free.
