J.Peterson reported that the Corp of Engineers has been working slide repairs on the Grand Tower Levee. On October 3rd they will be in court asking for a tax increase.
D.Bost asked if it was true that the original owners of the Grand Tower Power Plant have paid their back taxes. Dan Brenner verified that was true but the assessment issue has not been resolved. D.Bost stated that that assessment being the largest piece of industrial property in the county and the most valuable but it was different animal then all the rest of the properties in the county. Be it homes, small businesses, even big businesses owned properties is totally different. He does not feel we should be worried about but worried to a certain extent but not to the extent that we were because someone paid the taxes obviously they see value in it and no matter what the concern was oh if we buy it the person who bought that back now are concerned about if and he thinks there is just as much demand for that property on both ends that its not something we should be something that we should all have a hair on fire about, we should be more concerned about all the other properties in Jackson County be it residential, commercial and pay attention to what is going on there with those assessments. That those assessment are done with a sensible approach that we don't isolate and make people other than the power plant want to leave Jackson County and continue to deteriorate our tax base.
E.Burke arrived.
Chairman Rendleman brought up the issue of hospitals being exempted. Dan Brenner stated that the issue was still in the courts.
