Unity Point Community Consolidated School District 140 Board (Part 1) met May 2.

D.W. Presley administered the Oath of Office to newly elected board members Marissa Baxter, Sylvia Thoms, Tom Upton and Morteza Daneshdoost.
The special meeting of the Unity Point Board of Education was called to order at 5:25 p.m. by the president protempore, D.W. Presley, with the following members present: D.W. Presley, Marissa Baxter, Tom Upton, Sylvia Thoms and Morteza Daneshdoost. Others present were Lori James-Gross, Debbie Gurley, Kerry Glenn, Bill Laser, Chris Midden, Amanda Hilt, Heidi Jung and Pam Stevenson.
Nominations were opened for President of the Board of Education.
Morteza Daneshdoost nominated D.W. Presley as President of the Board of Education. Following a voice vote D.W. Presley was elected President by acclamation.
Nominations were opened for Vice-President of the Board of Education.
Tom Upton nominated Craig Davis as Vice-President of the Board of Education. Following a voice vote Craig Davis was elected Vice-President by acclamation.
Nominations were opened for Secretary of the Board of Education.
D.W. Presley nominated Marissa Baxter as Secretary of the Board of Education. Following a voice vote Marissa Baxter was elected Secretary by acclamation.
Morteza Daneshdoost made the motion, seconded by Tom Upton to set meeting dates on the second Thursday of each month at 6:00 p.m. in the Unity Point Library including dates per attached list. Motion carried 5-0 with all voting yea.
Tom Upton made the motion, seconded by Morteza Daneshdoost to adopt Board Policies as established by the previous Board of Education. Motion carried 5-0 with all voting yea.
A motion was made by Morteza Daneshdoost, seconded by D.W. Presley to approve the Agenda. Motion carried 5-0 with all voting yea.
Discussion was held concerning upcoming IASB Board member training workshops and the August 12, 2017 board/community retreat.
Morteza Daneshdoost made the motion, seconded by Tom Upton to adjourn the Board for an Executive Session at 5:43 p.m. to consider the Board vacancy and process for selection. Motion carried 5-0 with all voting yea.
Tom Upton made the motion, seconded by Morteza Daneshdoost to resume regular session at 6:00 p.m. Motion carried 5-0 with all voting yea.
A motion was made by Morteza Daneshdoost, seconded by Tom Upton to approve the minutes of the May 2, 2017 Executive Session meeting, copy attached. Motion carried 5-0 with all voting yea.
Morteza Daneshdoost made the motion, seconded by Tom Upton to adjourn the meeting at 6:01 p.m. Motion carried 5-0 with all voting yea.
