Hors d’oeuvres, wine, music and a silent auction will highlight SIU Carbondale’s 21st annual “Celebrate Women: Honoring Inclusive Excellence” event at Morris Library on March 30.
Attendees will be treated to a student-designed fashion show, have the opportunity to join in honoring various award recipients, and hear university officials speak on diversity and gender.
After the reception, Elizabeth Lewin, interim associate chancellor for diversity, will make opening remarks, followed by honorary chair Mary Colwell and a previous scholarship recipient in the Women, Gender and Sexuality Studies Department.
Awards and honors to be presented include the Women, Gender and Sexuality Studies (WGSS)/University Women’s Professional Advancement (UWPA) Research, Scholarly and Creative Activity Award; the American Association of University Women, SIU Women’s Club and WGSS scholarships; the Women’s Intersport Network for Southern Illinois Awards, and the UWPA Mentoring awards.
The event begins with a silent auction from 4:30 to 5:45 p.m. in the library rotunda with a catered reception from 5 to 6 p.m. Tickets may be purchased for $25 by calling Martha Ellert at 618-521-0613 or emailing msellert@aol.com.
