Murphysboro City Council discusses plan to buy mosquito-spraying truck
At a recent special meeting, the Murphysboro City Council discussed funding options to purchase a mosquito-spraying truck.

September 9, 2016
The Murphysboro, Illinois, City Council met in special session, pursuant to its
ordinances, on the 9
th day of September 2016. Mayor Stephens called the meeting
to order at 2:00 p.m. and Alderman Hughes led the council in prayer. Following the
invocation, Mayor Stephens led the council in the pledge of allegiance to the flag.
Mayor Stephens then directed City Clerk Cottonaro to call the roll. The roll was
called with the following
Present: Barb Hughes, Linda Porter-Smith, Russell Brown, Gary McComb, Bill
Pierson, Danny Bratton, John Erbes, Gloria Campos
Absent: Herb Voss, Tom Ridings
The purchase of a truck for spraying mosquitoes was discussed. Alderman Brown
stated that the Smysor Board would not allow us to buy a truck with the balance of
the money they gave us for the concerts and for Lawless for landscaping. Alderman
Pierson suggested it could possibly be taken out of the public works budget. It was
also suggested we could use the funds from the sale of the old truck toward the new
truck purchase and we could hold off on two demolitions to pay for the new truck.
Motion: To approve the purchase of a truck for $7,300 to be used for mosquito
