Unity Point Community Consolidated School District 140 Board met Oct. 19.

Here are the minutes provided by the board:

The regular meeting of the Unity Point Board of Education was called to order at 6:00 p.m. by the President,  Amanda Pangrazio, with the following members present: Morteza Daneshdoost, Lisa DiBiase, Elizabeth  Mackenbach, Amanda Pangrazio, Courtney O’Dell and Sylvia Thoms. Others present were: Dr. Lori James Gross, Michelle Brown, Leslie Varble and Mary Beth Goff.  

Morteza Daneshdoost made the motion, seconded by Elizabeth Mackenbach to approve the Agenda as presented.  Motion carried 6-0 with all voting yea.  

Robin Warne entered the meeting at 6:01 p.m.  

Amanda Pangrazio made the motion, seconded by Sylvia Thoms to approve the minutes of the September 21,  2023 Regular Meeting Minutes as amended, copy attached. Motion carried 7-0 with all voting yea.  

Robin Warne made the motion, seconded by Elizabeth Mackenbach to approve the following Consent Agenda  items:  

- Approval of Bills  

- Presentation of Financial Reports  

- Jackson County SFST October Distribution  

- Correspondence  

- ISBE/LEA Determinations Report  

- UPEA Email from Jennifer Musoiu  

- IASB Active Status Letter  

Motion carried 7-0 with all voting yea.  

Laura Weber, GRP, provided an update regarding the status of our solar project.  

Amanda Pangrazio recognized guests and visitors that were present.  

Public Comments:  

None  

Morteza Daneshdoost made the motion, seconded by Sylvia Thoms to issue a Working Cash Bond for the  upcoming levy year. The tax rate for this bond should not exceed $0.14. The proceeds from this bond will help to  finance various projects including but not limited to:  

- Roof for 2003 Addition  

- Portable Classrooms for PREK  

- Lockers  

- Playground Upgrades  

- Landscaping Upgrades  

Motion carried 7-0 with all voting yea.  

Board committee updates were as follows:  

1. Policy – 10/17/23  

2. Curriculum – 10/26/23  

Michelle Brown, Business Manager, reviewed the 1st Quarter revenue/expenses.  

Discussed upcoming employment postings. 

IASB Delegate Assembly at 2023 Triple I Conference – TABLED  

Sylvia Thoms made a motion, seconded by Lisa DiBiase to reschedule the November 16th Board meeting date to  November 14th due to the IASB Triple I Conference. Motion carried 7-0 with all voting yea.  

Dr. Lori James-Gross, Superintendent, Leslie Varble, Principal for Instruction, and Mary Beth Goff, Dean of  Students, provided the following Administrative Updates:  

1. Current Enrollment/Registration Figures  

2. Character Traits Program – Presented by Stephanie Jordan  

3. Technology Update  

4. Continuous School Improvement Update  

1. Release of Illinois School Report Card/2022-2023 Preliminary IAR Designation  

Morteza Daneshdoost made the motion, seconded by Robin Warne to release the following closed session  minutes:  

- July 26, 2022  

- September 15, 2022  

- January 19, 2023  

- April 20, 2023  

Motion carried 7-0 with all voting yea.  

Robin Warne made the motion, seconded by Sylvia Thoms to enter into Executive Session at 8:16 p.m. to consider  the appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance or dismissal of specific employees of the  public body. Motion carried 7-0 with all voting yea.  

Amanda Pangrazio made the motion, seconded by Morteza Daneshdoost to enter back into Regular Session at  8:54 p.m. Motion carried 7-0 with all voting yea.  

Morteza Daneshdoost made the motion, seconded by Elizabeth Mackenbach to approve the minutes from the  October 19, 2023 Executive Session. Motion carried 7-0 with all voting yea.

Robin Warne made the motion, seconded by Lisa DiBiase to adjourn the meeting at 8:58 p.m. Motion carried 7- 0 with all voting yea.
