There have been 20,476 confirmed coronavirus cases in Williamson County as of Jan. 27, with 224 deaths linked to the virus, according to data from the state Department of Public Health (IDPH).

Chicago (539,540 cases) and Cook County (532,441 cases) posted the highest numbers statewide. Chicago’s death toll from the virus stands at 6,864, while Cook County recorded 6,326 deaths, according to the IDPH.

Illinois residents who have been tested for COVID-19 now number 50,583,769, the department reported. And the age group with the most confirmed cases was under 20, with 637,354 people in the age group testing positive for the virus.

Among all those testing positive in Illinois, 1,341,640 were male and 1,497,083 were female, the IDPH said. Male deaths linked to coronavirus numbered 16,678, while female deaths stood at 13,890.

Broken down according to race, the fatalities consisted of 19,118 whites, 5,604 African-Americans, 4,360 Hispanics, 973 Asians, and 513 belonging to other races or who did not provide their ethnicity before they died.
