Carbondale Chamber of Commerce recently issued the following announcement
Southern Illinois’ oldest winery – Alto Vineyards – will celebrate 30 years of award-making wine with a three-day Anniversary Festival this weekend, September 14-16, in Alto Pass. Friday night is a formal Dinner & Wine Pairing Gala featuring a four-course meal catered by Cristaudo’s and jazz music with The Jewels. Saturday is CajunFest with music by King Juba and Creole Stomp, with Cajun food for sale and a professional fireworks show to close out the night. Sunday is Customer Appreciation Day with door deals, drink specials, and discounts on to-go wine all day.
“We are super excited to share this weekend with our customers who have supported us throughout the past 30 years in business,” says Charles Walker, Event Coordinator at Alto Vineyards. “With several events planned this weekend, from new wine releases (like our famous Porto di Guido) to bringing back CajunFest on Saturday, we’re not only celebrating the last 30 years, but toasting to the future of the local wine industry and we’d just love to say thank you to Southern Illinois.”
All events will be held rain or shine and Friday night’s Gala is the only ticketed event - Saturday and Sunday are free admission. Gala tickets must be pre-purchased by end-of-day Monday, September 10 at altovineyards.net or at the tasting room in Alto Pass.
Alto Vineyards is Southern Illinois’ oldest winery and vineyard opening in 1988. Since then, they’ve won hundreds of state, national, and international wine competition medals and make over 20 different wines. They were an integral part of starting the Shawnee Hills Wine Trial and the Shawnee Hills AVA (American Viticulture Area) which has helped to grow the local agritourism industry into what it is today.
