TOUCH OF NATURE ENVIRONMENTAL CENTER: Veteran Adventures Cache River Canoe & Cookout to be held May 26

Veteran

Touch of Nature Environmental Center recently issued the following announcement.

Kick off your summer with some food, friends and fun! SIU's Touch of Nature - Veteran Adventures is opening this FREE event to all Veterans, current service members, and their families. Professional guides will lead participants on a canoe tour through one of the nation's most ecologically diverse areas, and home to some of the oldest living trees east of the Mississippi River. As the voyage meanders through The Cache River Wetlands, a National Natural Landmark and a RAMSAR Wetland of International Importance, voyagers will have opportunities to see multiply species of plants and animals found nowhere else in Illinois. What some call The Illinois Bayou, The Cache River Wetlands looks more like Louisiana than Illinois.

No previous paddling experience required. A certified American Canoe Association guide will be available to assist participants and provide paddling knowledge. Participants can choose to meet us at the Lower Cache River Access, Ullin, IL 62992. (location found on Google Maps) or can catch a ride with us from Touch of Nature.

A cookout lunch will be provided (vegetarian options will be available). Individuals with disabilities are welcome. Any questions regarding this event please call Greg at 618/453-1121. We look forward to seeing you!
