The Southern Illinois University Salukis women’s golf team finished in eighth place at a tournament in Sedona, Arizona, according to a March 16 announcement.
The result marks the team’s highest finish of the season and reflects ongoing improvement as the season progresses. The Salukis compete within the Missouri Valley Conference and participate in invitational tournaments across various states, according to the official website.
Head coach Sam Sambursky said, “We’re proud of the consistency we’ve shown over these three rounds, but we know there’s still room to grow. We are learning how to compete and make every shot count.”
Kayla Sayyalinh led Southern Illinois by tying for 24th place at 10-over par. Ella Overstreet followed in 30th place at 12-over, while Calli Smith finished 38th at 15-over. Allie Santos placed 55th at 27-over, and Amelia Zingler rounded out the lineup with a 67th-place finish at 36-over. The team finished just one stroke behind Montana for seventh place. Northern Arizona won the team title.
Southern Illinois University Salukis Women’s Golf operates as a collegiate women’s golf team based in Carbondale, Illinois, according to the official website. The program regularly competes in tournaments across multiple states as part of its schedule.
