The Southern Illinois University women’s basketball team achieved a significant victory over Judson University on Saturday, winning 85-29. This marks the Salukis’ largest margin of victory since December 2022, when they defeated Chicago State by 58 points.
Head coach Kelly Bond-White addressed her team’s approach after the game. “I told our guys we have to play lighter,” said Bond-White. “Lighter doesn’t mean less intense. But when your shots aren’t falling, sometimes there’s a tension about it and you get a little tight. I told them I want them to play for each other first because if we took the owness off of self, that lightness could come if we’re looking for other people and letting the game come back to us.”
Several players contributed notable performances. Indya Green recorded a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds, while Jeniah Thompson also had a double-double with 14 points. Alayna Kraus continued her streak of scoring at least ten points in every game this season, finishing with 16.
Defensively, Southern Illinois forced Judson into 27 turnovers and collected 18 steals. The Salukis also blocked five shots and limited Judson to just over 17 percent shooting from the field.
The Salukis established control early in the game, leading 19-1 after the first quarter and maintaining their momentum throughout each period. By halftime, SIU led by more than thirty points. The second half saw continued dominance as Southern Illinois expanded its lead further before closing out the win.
Southern Illinois will return to action on December 29 for a home game against Belmont.
