The Southern Illinois University softball team won both games of a doubleheader against Indiana State on April 5, scoring a total of 16 runs and collecting 21 hits in Terre Haute.
This result is significant for the Salukis, who improved their overall record to 20-13 and moved to 9-4 in Missouri Valley Conference play. The victories highlight strong performances from several players and help solidify the team’s position in conference standings.
Sophomore Sage Grann had five hits in seven at-bats, including her first career home run, five runs scored, and two runs batted in. Junior Emily Williams hit two home runs with six RBI, while junior Sydney Potter added a home run and four RBI. Freshmen pitchers Brooklynn Danielson and Hailey Lucas each pitched complete games to earn the wins. Danielson allowed one run with three strikeouts in game one; Lucas gave up four runs with four strikeouts in game two.
Game one saw Grann’s early solo home run put SIU ahead. Potter’s three-run homer extended the lead, followed by Williams’ solo shot for additional insurance. In game two, Williams hit a grand slam as part of a six-run second inning that set the tone for another victory. The Sycamores managed to score but could not close the gap as SIU continued its offensive output throughout both games.
