The Southern Illinois University Salukis Women’s Softball team earned a decisive 13-3 victory against Indiana State on April 6, completing a three-game sweep in their series.
This win strengthens the team’s standing in the Missouri Valley Conference and highlights their competitive performance this season. The Salukis are now 21-13 overall and hold a conference record of 10-4, according to the official website.
In Monday’s game, Southern Illinois scored ten runs across the final two innings, finishing with sixteen hits and one error. Pitcher Emily Delgado recorded six strikeouts over six and one-third innings, allowing seven hits and three runs. Emma Gipson closed out the game by pitching two-thirds of an inning without giving up any runs. Four players had multiple hits: Mikaela Coburn and Amanda Knutson each collected three, while Maleah Blomenkamp and Jordan Stewart contributed two apiece. Sydney Potter hit her sixteenth home run of the season in the first inning, bringing her within one home run of tying the program’s single-season record set by Jackie Lis in 2023 and Emily Williams in 2025.
Williams also made an impact with a grand slam in the seventh inning—her second grand slam in as many days—helping secure SIU’s lead. “SIU will now return home to host Evansville on Tuesday with a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m. at Charlotte West Stadium,” according to information provided by Southern Illinois University.
