Southern Illinois University Salukis Women’s Golf finished seventh out of ten teams at the Colonel Classic in Richmond, Kentucky, according to an April 1 report. The tournament was held from March 30 to March 31.
The team posted a total score of 961 (+97) over three rounds, with scores of 322 (+34), 320 (+32), and 319 (+31). Kayla Sayyalinh led the team by tying for seventh place individually after shooting +5 in the first round, +4 in the second round, and +6 in the third round. This marks her third top-10 finish this season. Other notable performances included Calli Smith tying for 25th place at +23, Allie Santos tying for 33rd at +26, and Amelia Zingler tying for 38th at +28. Ella Overstreet finished with a score of +35 while Hannia Gastelum ended at +46.
Head Coach Sam Sambursky said he sees progress within his team. “We didn’t have any perfect rounds, but there were a lot of small wins we can build on. Kayla put together a solid 54 holes in windy conditions.  I’m excited to see how she finishes the season after the confidence of another top 10 finish.”
Southern Illinois University Salukis Women’s Golf operates as a collegiate women’s golf team based in Carbondale, Illinois according to the official website. The program competes within the Missouri Valley Conference and participates in invitational tournaments across multiple states according to its official website.
The team’s next event is scheduled for April 11 when they will compete in the Jan Weaver Invitational in Murray, Kentucky.
