Southern Illinois track and field will participate in the Joey Haines Invitational hosted by Southeast Missouri on April 3 and 4. The meet offers both the men’s and women’s teams an opportunity to continue their early season progress after a strong start.
The event is significant for the Salukis as it allows athletes to gain experience and build momentum during the outdoor season. The competition begins Friday with the hammer throw at 3 p.m., followed by a full schedule of events through Saturday. Field events are set to start at 11 a.m. on Saturday, with track events beginning at noon. Some contests, such as pole vault and high jump, will take place inside the Student Recreation Center.
Southern Illinois Salukis Men’s Track and Field competes at the NCAA Division I level as part of the Missouri Valley Conference, according to the official website. The program operates from Carbondale, Illinois, where it utilizes the Lew Hartzog Track and Field Complex as its primary venue, also reported by their official website.
Both teams look forward to sharpening performances across all disciplines during this two-day meet. “This weekend provides another opportunity to sharpen performances and continue progress across both the men’s and women’s squads,” said team representatives in advance of competition.
