After wrapping up their home schedule last weekend, Southern Illinois University’s swim and dive program saw three of its athletes recognized with weekly honors from the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) on Wednesday.
Olivia Herron was named Women’s Swimmer of the Week after a standout performance that included breaking school records in both the 200-butterfly and 400-individual medley. Her time of 4:12.81 in the 400-IM also set a new MVC record. Herron contributed to relay wins and secured multiple individual victories during SIU’s meets against McKendree and Vanderbilt. This marks her fifth Swimmer of the Week award this season.
Willem Huggins earned his second Men’s Swimmer of the Week honor for his role in SIU’s win over McKendree, where he helped secure victories in both relay events and won individual gold medals in the 100- and 200-backstroke.
Lucas Lauzon was recognized as Men’s Diver of the Week following first-place finishes in both the 1-meter and 3-meter dives against McKendree. It is his first career Diver of the Week award; Lauzon previously received recognition as MVC Freshman Diver of the Year.
Herron and Huggins’ awards bring SIU’s total number of Swimmer of the Week honors to twelve this season, while Lauzon is only the second diver from Southern Illinois to earn weekly recognition this year.
