Three student-athletes from Southern Illinois University have been recognized for their academic and athletic achievements by being named to the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) Scholar-Athlete Team. The MVC office announced on Wednesday that Jaxon Holder and Sam Frizzi received First Team honors, while Dylan Petrey was selected for the Second Team.

Jaxon Holder played in 49 games this season, achieving a .329 batting average with ten doubles, six home runs, and two triples. He also led the team in stolen bases with 13 out of 14 attempts and had a .436 on-base percentage. Holder is studying criminology and criminal justice with a GPA of 3.93.

Sam Frizzi made significant contributions from the bullpen with a team-high of 25 appearances. He led the conference with eight saves and maintained a 3.28 ERA over 35.2 innings pitched, striking out 34 batters. Frizzi is pursuing university studies with a GPA of 3.87.

Dylan Petrey appeared in 22 games as part of the bullpen this season, ending with a record of four wins and three losses alongside a 4.22 ERA. He achieved 47 strikeouts over his time on the field and allowed only twelve extra-base hits. Petrey majors in industrial management & applied engineering, holding a GPA of 3.78.
