Southern Illinois University announced on Apr. 9 that it will host its annual Saluki Football Spring Game at Saluki Stadium on Friday, April 17, with doors opening at 5 p.m. and kickoff scheduled for 6 p.m. Admission is free for all fans.

The event gives the community an early opportunity to see the Salukis as they prepare for the upcoming season and serves as a gathering point for students and supporters of Southern Illinois University. The program recently held scrimmages at Du Quoin High School and Marion High School in preparation.

SIU students are encouraged to attend, with several activities planned exclusively for them during the evening. Organizers say there will be a free pig roast available to SIU students, along with on-field competitions and major giveaways. Students are also invited to join the Dawg Pound section to support their team from up close.

Fans attending the event can purchase $1 beer while supplies last, and select season tickets will be offered at half price if bought during the game. Afterward, opportunities will be available for autographs and photos with players.

The Southern Illinois Salukis Men’s Football program competes in Carbondale, Illinois, representing Southern Illinois University according to the official website. The team plays at the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision level and won a national title in 1983 as per the official website. The mascot of SIU athletics is the Saluki—a breed known for speed, grace, and endurance—which symbolizes both school spirit and athletic excellence according to the official website.

This spring event offers fans a chance to reconnect with their team ahead of fall competition while enjoying special activities designed especially for students.
