Southern Illinois University Carbondale will host Salukis Care Day, a campus-wide event dedicated to supporting student emotional wellness and success, on April 8. The event is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Faner Plaza and the Student Services Building.
The university says the day aims to help students relax, enjoy themselves, and improve their mental health through a variety of activities. Organizers encourage students to participate before, after, or between classes.
Activities include posing for photos in the College Dreams Photo Booth, sharing goals on the Dream Wall, free pizza and subs during set times, complimentary beverages from Water Dawgs, games, a rock climbing wall, giveaways, inflatables, coloring stations, hammocks for relaxing, and more. A chalk fest will allow students to write positive affirmations on sidewalks. There will also be an opportunity called Cops with Pops for students to meet campus police while enjoying free popsicles.
Additionally, Counseling and Psychological Services will offer Mindwise anonymous screening sessions where students can complete behavioral health questionnaires and learn about available mental health resources.
Volunteers are needed for the event; those interested should email jacari.henderson@siu.edu by 3 p.m. on April 3 to register. For more information about Salukis Care Day or the Saluki Cares program, individuals can visit the university’s website or contact siucares@siu.edu.
