Melissa Connelly, CEO of OneGoal, will speak about her career and the work of her organization during a presentation hosted by Southern Illinois University Carbondale’s Paul Simon Public Policy Institute on March 31. The event is free and open to the public, beginning at 6 p.m. at the Varsity Center in Carbondale, with a reception starting at 5 p.m.
Connelly’s appearance aims to highlight efforts to improve student success nationwide and expand opportunities for young people preparing for life after high school. She will discuss her journey as a first-generation college graduate and share insights from more than 15 years in education.
Institute director John Shaw said, “Melissa Connelly offers a compelling life story, impressive thought leadership, and deep wisdom about the challenges facing young people as they prepare for life after high school.” Shaw also noted anticipation for learning about Connelly’s leadership of OneGoal and its Purposeful Pathways program: “This program melds high quality advising, accelerated coursework, and career-connected learning.”
OneGoal is based in Chicago and works with partner high schools across the country to help students close opportunity gaps and pursue higher education. The organization emphasizes building strong human relationships as part of its approach.
